Bilgesu Sumer is a doctoral researcher at KU Leuven (CiTiP), Biometric Law Lab (BLL). Her Ph.D. research focuses on the data protection implications of new digital identity systems with biometrics and blockchains. She is also interested in the regulation of AI, data protection in transborder data flows, governmental access to personal data, certification, and liability.
