Policy and Project Officer, DG CONNECT, European Commission
Johan has a degree in European Studies from the universities of Amsterdam and Strasbourg. After having worked for many years at the EU Court of Justice, he joined the European Commission’s DG CONNECT in 2017.
Johan is currently working as a Policy and Project officer in the Data Policy and Innovation unit. This unit is responsible for the implementation of the European Data Strategy. It includes data legislation, such as the Open Data Directive, the Data Governance Act and the proposed Data Act, as well as the roll out of common European data spaces in strategic sectors/domains.
Johan is working on Commission policy and support to set up the common European Data Spaces, in particular through the Data Spaces Support Centre. Furthermore, he has a portfolio of related Horizon 2020/Europe and Digital Europe big data projects.
