On 6 November, Barbara Lazarotto, Managing Director of the Hub, led a workshop on AI Ethics for Journalists at the Sphera Media Lab event, held at LaVallée in Brussels.

Organised by European Lab and Sphera, the Sphera Media Lab brought together independent media professionals, journalists, activists, and creatives from across Europe for a full day of discussions on the future of information, technological transformation, and the changing dynamics of media audiences.

Barbara’s AI Ethics Training workshop explored the concrete implications of artificial intelligence for journalism,  from automated content creation and fact-checking to algorithmic curation and audience analytics. Participants discussed the ethical challenges raised by AI in news production and distribution, including issues of transparency, accountability, bias, and the role of regulation in shaping responsible media practices.

Through interactive discussion and case-based reflection, the workshop encouraged journalists to critically engage with the opportunities and risks of AI, and to consider frameworks for its responsible and sustainable use in the newsroom.
