The Interdisciplinary Project on Privacy (IPoP) explores how emerging digital technologies – such as connected health devices, AI-driven services, and location-based tools- can both enhance quality of life and raise complex privacy and data protection challenges. The project adopts a truly interdisciplinary approach, bringing together experts in law, computer science, engineering, economics, and the social sciences to design privacy-preserving solutions that comply with French and European data protection frameworks while remaining practical and user-friendly.

The Brussels Privacy Hub contributes to IPoP by providing its expertise on European and international data protection law, with a particular focus on the legal and regulatory dimensions of privacy-preserving technologies. Its participation strengthens the project’s legal and policy perspective, ensuring that the proposed solutions are aligned with the broader EU data protection ecosystem and current regulatory debates.

Led within France’s PEPR Cybersécurité programme, IPoP is piloted by Inria (Privatics) and coordinated by Antoine Boutet (INSA Lyon) and Vincent Roca (Inria). The consortium includes Inria, CNRS, INSA Centre-Val de Loire, INSA Lyon, Université Grenoble Alpes, Université de Lille, Université de Rennes 1, Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and EDHEC; the CNIL accompanies the project as a non-funded partner.

EDHEC Augmented Law Institute (ALI) contributes to the legal and governance strands (e.g., hosting iPoP workshops). Through a cooperation agreement with EDHEC ALI, the Brussels Privacy Hub (VUB) provides EU and international data-protection expertise to EDHEC-led iPoP activities, strengthening the project’s legal and policy perspective and alignment with current regulatory debates.
