On 29 October, Barbara Lazarotto, the Managing Director of the Brussels Privacy Hub, attended and represented the Hub at DLA Piper’s Digital Strategy Day 2.0, held at DLA Piper Brussels. The high-level event brought together EU policymakers, academics, and industry leaders for a focused discussion on how to make simplification and competitiveness in EU digital regulation a success.

Following the success of its inaugural edition in 2024, this year’s Digital Strategy Day gathered representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, the OECD, the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE), and the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF), among others. The discussions centered on the EU’s evolving digital regulatory framework, including upcoming initiatives such as the Digital Omnibus, the Digital Fairness Act, and the implementation of the Digital Decade framework.

The event also featured sessions with Diarmuid Goulding (Irish Deputy Data Protection Commissioner), Martins Prieditis (DG JUST), Zach Meyers (CERRE), and a special briefing from the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), represented by Sebastião Barros Vale. Discussions emphasized improving inter-institutional coordination and ensuring that Europe’s “digital rulebook” functions effectively in practice.

The morning concluded with closing remarks by Christophe Carugati (Digital Competition), followed by a networking lunch offering participants an opportunity to exchange insights on regulatory trends and digital policy developments across Europe.

Barbara’s participation reinforced the Hub’s commitment to engaging in high-level debates shaping the future of EU digital regulation and contributing to efforts aimed at achieving a balanced, competitive, and innovation-oriented digital ecosystem.
