Biography

Professor Paul De Hert is a former Co-Director of the Brussels Privacy Hub and the Research Group Law, Science, Technology & Society (LSTS) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He is currently Director of the Research Group on Human Rights (FRC) and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law and Criminology.

His work focuses on privacy & technology, human rights, and criminal law, combining a human rights approach with legal theory. He teaches Criminal Law and International and European Criminal Law at VUB and Privacy and Data Protection at Tilburg University.

Prof. De Hert has published extensively, including on the European Convention on Human Rights and constitutionalism, and co-edits influential works on data protection law, such as the Computers, Privacy & Data Protection series (Hart). He also serves on the editorial boards of several international journals, including The Computer Law & Security Review and Criminal Law & Philosophy.
